As a young mom of 4 boys, I needed all the help that I could get. I grew up as pretty much an only child, as my sister and I are 14.5 years apart, and I was not used to being around children. I would faithfully listen to Dr. Dobson’s daily radio broadcast from the little radio that I had in my kitchen so I could glean much-needed Godly insight on parenting as well as encouragement. There were many tears as well as many laughs during that time. I also read many of his books on parenting, especially “The Strong Willed Child.” I am forever grateful to God for blessing us with Dr. Dobson. I pray that the peace and comfort of our Lord, Jesus Christ, be with his family during this time.

His was such a courageous voice of God’s truth in an era where lies were honored and truth shunned. His godly influence and wisdom on our lives as parents and community members can’t be calculated. Our prayers for God’s comfort and strength for his family and close friends are ascending. We will miss you, Dr. Dobson. We will always cherish the privilege and opportunity we had as we volunteered at Focus on the Family. Meeting and sharing time with Dr. Dobson will remain one of our treasured memories. I remember a series that Dr Dobson had many years ago on raising boys. I listened to that series and read the book intently. It helped me to raise my son with intention and how to understand his growing pains along with those of his father, whose father offered no fatherly advise ever. The Focus on the Family program made me aware of my rights as a parent and how to defend my faith and defend my children from ungodly teachings in the schools. And how to be effective in the town my kids grew up in. This Focus on the Family program was and still is a tremendous blessing in my life! My heartfelt condolences to his wife and family. I was going through a difficult time in my life (divorce) , mom of twins, and clung to the Word of God. Dr. Dobson will be greatly missed but we believers shall be reunited again in spirit one day!

I started listening to Focus on the Family in 1996, on the way to work. During one of the broadcasts Dr Dobson shared how he fasted and prayed for his children every Wednesday. I started do the same. Now, 29 years later, I am convinced it is the reason why my 2 sons (now 26 and 24 years old) - who each went through several years of living for themselves - found their way back to the Lord. I thank our Heavenly Father for his faithfulness to my family & me and to Dr Dobson and FOTF for continuing to care and advocate for couples and family's.

I think I still have a cassette tape of it somewhere or hope I can find it. It would be a treasure to listen to this Christmas. I'm so sad to read the news of Dr. Dobsons passing. He was a wonderful example of follower of Jesus, husband, father, friend and leader. My husband and I did the Bringing up Boys study at our church when our son was in middle school - and it was then I realized how much I interfered in their budding relationship. I learned so much. I know Dr. Dobson will be greatly missed.

I began listening to Focus on the Family as a newly married woman. What wonderful insight and knowledge Dr. Dobson shared! As our family grew, I was encouraged and challenged to be a better parent as he helped me see the importance of the family and God's plan for us. Dr. Dobson will be greatly missed. My condolences to his family today. But I am so grateful to God that we will see him again in heaven! He never knew me, but I felt that he was a trusted mentor. In heaven I look forward to thanking James Dobson myself. Glory to God.

Dr. Dobson was a marriage and parenting “mentor” to me through his radio broadcasts, newsletters and books. The Lord used him in my life to bring wisdom and understanding in areas where I had none. Many of my positive life choices came from his solid, godly advice. I am so very grateful!

Listening to Focus on the Family was key to raising my two, now grown, children. We have many, if not all, his books. His passing is bittersweet. Bitter because it's as if I have lost a wise grandfather who was intricately involved in so many areas of my life. But, we know that he is face to face with his savior and that is very sweet.

I can't count the episodes of Focus on the Family I listened to over the years or express adequately the effect Dr. Dobson and his team had on helping me grow spiritually in every way. What a wonderful, compassionate teacher and mentor he was for me and my family. He has received his reward for his faithful witness and has now joined that ever growing "cloud of witnesses" cheering all of us on. I'm praying for the comfort of the Holy Spirit for Shirley and the family along with Focus's associates at every level. Well Done Dr. Dobson!!!

As youth, our youth group leader had us read Dr. Dobson's book " Preparing for Adolescents". I realized later in my life that this book was quite helpful. Of course, as a youth it was just another book to read. I'm glad I read the book. When I became a parent I found his book, "Parenting is Not for Cowards". This one truly hit home. I am sad to hear of his passing and my condolences to his family. I will meet him in heaven some day and possibly chat about adolescents and children. Our ministry goes beyond our family because of Focus on the Family to include a small but growing college ministry and new Christian Bible Study. You are gone from our sight but sitting on the lap of God and holding Jesus' hand, you have won the race, you have been a good and faithful servant. Thank you for all the teachings and books you have left us with so that we can all be together again, God willing. This is my hope and His promise. May God continue to bless your family.

I began listening to Focus on the Family in 1981; there were two area radio stations that played the programs, and even with little children, I could listen to each episode twice in a day! I still have many of the resources I received from Focus on the Family, some are now in our church library. My children grew up with Adventures in Odyssey, and we have every episode from the first sixty collections, that we keep on hand for our grandchildren. We had the opportunity to visit the new facilities in Colorado Springs in 1994, while we were on an historical tour of the US for our homeschool; it was a highlight of the trip! Our condolences to the family, friends, and coworkers of Dr. Dobson.

I started my morning listening to your broadcast daily. Your thoughts and inspiration taught me a lot in raising my three kids. All are now serving the Lord in ministry. Thank you, Dr. Dobson, for leading the way.
