“Jesus is the only source of meaning in life. The final heartbeat for the Christian is not the mysterious conclusion to a meaningless existence; rather, it is the grand beginning to a life that will never end.”

I’d cook breakfast and make school lunches every morning listening to Dr. Dobson on the radio . He taught me and encouraged me so very very much about being a godly parent. I’m still quoting him to young moms today from . Invaluable wisdom he sowed into so many families during those daily programs. What a gift he has been to the Body of Christ. Thank you for your faithfulness..

My son was 2 when FOTF launched. We raised our children on the wisdom of Dr Dobson. We thank God for him. There were some rough times but we stayed the course and have wonderful kids and grandkids. His constant theme was ours…Lord may we not lose a single one. He introduced us to many wise men of God such as Adrian Rogers and teachers like Kevin Leman. We laughed and cried with comedic speakers, wonderful testimonies and heart wrenching stories. We learned how have strong and wonderful marriages, how to pray and how to serve others. He wasn’t afraid to take on the culture as it tried to decimate the family. His reach was vast. We loved him. We will be praying for his family and thanking God for the blessing that was Dr James Dobson.

Dr Dobson was an awesome person! He helped me gain peace in the 80s as I was fretting about things as a mom I could have done better..he said " what you did right you did right, what you did wrong you did wrong." His words helped me so much! The applause as he entered heaven must have been deafening. Our Savior and Lord plus my husband, mom, dad, brother among many others...hes in perfect peace and perfect love..I know its but a small comfort as your family adjusts to the huge void hes left in your hearts and life..the same Lord that received him home will comfort you moment by moment. May you sense the Lords tangible presence as you embark on this journey.

As a new Christian and parent in the late 1970"s - early 1980's, I found great guidance from Dr. Dobson's radio program every day. Great foundations that helped me to build our marriage, raise our daughter and focus on serving God. Thank you Dr. Dobson for your uncompromising service to the Lord and all of us!

To the family of Dr. James Dobson, My heartfelt condolences to your entire family but also a huge thank you for sharing him with all of us! I can't imagine the late nights, the missed activities you had to endure so that we all got to enjoy a piece of Dr. Dobson! I will be eternally grateful for his wisdom, his tireless will to do what is right, for his willingness to speak to the small and the great about what is right in the eyes of our God! I will always be thankful for and laugh about the book he wrote "Bringing Up Boys"! After becoming a mom for the first time to a boy and having no idea what to do with this little human, I bought Dr. Dobson's book, "Bringing Up Boys" with his very first sentence saying, "Your job as his mom is to keep him alive until he's 18."! What!!! I was speechless! But as I read more, I gleamed more wisdom and understanding that boys and girls are indeed different and I had to change my parenting ways to match what was my son's way of knowing love and respect, honor and devotion! And to allow him to go conquer the world! Today he is a Godly young man who I am extremely proud of! Thank you Dr. Dobson and Mrs. Dobson and the whole Dobson family! May God Bless you and give you HIS unending comfort!

My husband and I were married in 1977, the same year that Focus on the Family began. The radio was frequently playing with Dr. Dobson's kind, understanding, yet also determined voice guiding us as new Christians, as newlyweds, as new parents, as parents of teens, etc. We so appreciated his wisdom and concern for individuals and for humanity as a whole, as well as his boldness in being an advocate for the family. Thank you Dr. Dobson and thank you to the Dobson family for sharing him with so many of us.

Dr. Dobson was an emotional anchor, an encouragement, and a teacher for my husband and for me as we raised our three boys in the late eighties and the nineties. We listened to his radio program at 11:30 each weekday morning on KGNZ in Abilene, Texas. His books also helped us navigate through the challenges of raising our kids. It cannot be overstated how important his ministry was in our lives! I’m so thankful that he founded FOTF. In ~ 1998, FOTF put out a publication that was a simple guide for praying for your children and family. It listed categories that would be good to cover in prayer. Starting with that publication, I developed the lifelong habit of praying for my boys in specific ways. I’ve added more and more details to the prayer categories as time has gone by. Looking back, it’s amazing how God has answered those prayers so faithfully. I’m so thankful for Dr. Dobson and all the wisdom and guidance he offered! The world has lost an amazing man. It’s a loss that feels very personal to us. God bless you, Shirley, and all of your family. We love you, and we’re lifting you up during this time. Praise the Lord that Dr. Dobson finished his race faithfully. What a blessing!

When we were raising our sons, we lived in a different state from our family and being new to our community, we sought good and sound Christian advice on raising our sons and nourishing a Christian marriage. I came across James Dobson and Focus on the Family. James Dobson guided my husband and I through our journey of parenting and marriage. Our sons loved Adventures in Odyssey as do our grandchildren now! Dr. Dobson's obedience to God has touched our lives, our sons and now our grandchildren along with so many others in this world. I thank you with all my heart and am so thankful that we will get to spend eternity with you in heaven!

As a teenager I had housecleaning tasks every weekday of the summer. My mom always had on Christian radio (early 80s), and I recall listening to FOTF almost every weekday with her. Even as a kid I recognized wisdom and enjoyed the great programming Dr. Dobson provided. I still recall guests and special episodes all these years later. I'm grateful for the amazing work Dr. Dobson did throughout his life of service. He is a giant of my faith, and I look forward to seeing him someday in Heaven!

What a special man that Dr. Dobson was. I loved hearing his Focus on Family radio programs. He offered so much wisdom and knowledge in advice to his listeners and readers over the years. He stood up for families and moral values. Saddened to hear of his passing, as he will be missed, but joyful knowing he is with Jesus being held and told "good job faithful servant".

Doctor Dobson and Focus on the Family were ever-present in my childhood, youth and adulthood. I loved listening to adventures in Odyssey when I was little, feeling cool reading Brio magazine as a teenager, and listening to Dr. Dobson's calm and wise advice about raising strong willed children as an adult. His Godly wisdom and knack for presenting things in a down-to-earth, engaging manner will be greatly missed.

I first started listening to Dr. Dobson when I was a young mom with a very active toddler and a baby. I was depressed thinking that I was doing everything wrong. I so wanted to be a good Christian mom. Dr. Dobson gave me hope and practical advise on how to raise my children in a christian home.. I am forever in his debt and hope to see him in heaven so I can say thank you!

I want to take this moment and express my deepest sympathy to the family of Dr. Dobson, and the extended family he created with his extraordinary work. His passion for the existence of Biblical family structure, and to reach out to those in need of finding it, has truly changed my life. The sincere caring and prayer I received during my darkest times of my life gave me peace. Though I am still in the battle, I know I can reach out to members of Focus on the Family, and pour my heart out without condemnation, and receive loving support in so many ways. I am grateful to Dr.Dobson for his vision, and his service to our Lord Jesus Christ. Hallelujah! Glory to God!

As a young mother with a son that had some challenges we didn't yet understand, Dr. Dobson's book DARE TO DISCIPLINE is one that I will always love. I truly laughed at his analogy of children being like grocery carts. Some you can just push and they go right where you want them to, but then there are others that before you even touch them are determined to go just the opposite! Thanks for your wisdom and for starting Focus on the Family. We have been monthly contributors for years and will continue to be. Stephanie & Matthew Morris

One day years ago while driving to work I happened to hear this program called Focus on the Family. Immediately I was hooked. I loved listening to the program daily. I hated when I missed it. I never met Dr. Dobson, but I feel like I know him personally. I must admit I'm a bit sad he's no longer with us, but I know he's in a better place with our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Rest well Dr. Dobson. See you when I get there!

Dr. Dobson had a great influence on me and my husband in the early 1980's. We are so grateful for the way he clearly articulated issues of the day and related them to the Word of God. Our prayers are with his family as they grieve this very great loss. May the Lord raise up other great leaders who live out their Christian faith and communicate it to others.

My thanks to Dr. Dobson’s ministry, for helping me to raise my children! He also helped me tremendously through my early years of being a Christian. The best worst event of my life, a head-on car collision… Brought me to a place of receiving Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and Savior. After which, I had eternal peace yet depression from chronic pain as I tried to navigate raising my three step children and 11 month old child as a new believer without mentoring from believing parents. I found the encouragement of Johnny Erickson Tada so many other fine guests Dr. Dobson would frequently have on his show so helpful in my early development as a Christian. His book, the Strong Willed Child helped me get beyond some real obstacles parenting as a young mom in the Lord. Remember as I got older hearing an interview with Dr. Jean Lesh. I may have the spelling wrong, but it was the different seasons of a woman’s life if I remember correctly. Always rich in wisdom and relatable to the average growing believer. May Dr. Dobson’s legacy live on as he has entered in to the joy of the Lord, more fully! I’m sure he will be rewarded richly in eternity and I can’t wait to meet him in person someday! Denise Artzer

I'm grieving on this news. James Dobson helped me and possibly saved my life. I loved this man. I have all of his books. I listened every morning to his broadcast. I went to work recharged and ready for this crazy world we live in. I cannot express my feelings for this man, he was truly given to me by our Lord. I love Focus, and always will, so I give monthly. Just live up to his vision, even if you had different and conflicting views. Live for the glory of God, for the vision of love and family of our Lord. I am blessed to have listened to James Dobson and read his books for so many years. I have shared his works with people in crisis and they responded with glorious joy. I am truly thankful to him for his ministry, it will be with me til death. James, I know you are with our Savior right now, and he welcomed you with open arms. Thank you so much for what you gave me.

Thank God for Dr. James Dobson. What a God-fearing man to admire. I am thankful to have learned of his work many years ago, to expose darkness and shine the light of God's Word and the Gospel, that has persisted for decades. I have been greatly helped by Focus on the Family and I appreciate Dr. Dobson's contributions to marriages, parenting, and family life, all while reminding us of the Biblical values that we should cling to.

I listened to focus on the family for years. The remberance for him, the first speaker made me cry, I think it was Jim. I lost my father at 15 thru divorce. Jim became my wise radio father. I also was pursing a psychology degree later in life at 32, but God had other plans for us. I was married and having identical twins @ 39. I was a long time contributor to focus. In the first year of our marriage he sent me a book on marriage. I was also invited to CO SPRINGS once but was unable to make it. Dr Dobson had told us about many identical twin studies. And that's what we had- identical girls. I also dug in deep to his parenting book when my twins were 2 years old, Dare to Discipline. I sent my twins to there room and told them to work it out, just as the book told me to do. He advised me and parents to stop intervening. I passed this on to all twin parents who would listen. It literally saved me. I called it the wear-down game. Allow children to work it out and they will... IT is a great book. We know Jim is with his beloved father. He will be missed. I remember when Shirley, his wife, was the leader for National Day of Prayer. His son also was given a radio engagement partnership and wise also. It's like a listener knew the whole family. Thank you for all you did for American families and the fatherless. We were so blessed. Today, I listened to his 1 minute advise program. Still blessing us! He was a father to the fatherless... As a father shows compassion for his children... psalm 103:13

While we were raising our children in the 80’s Dr. Dobson’s books were such a great source of wisdom. Now as a grandparent I listen to his podcasts. He will be missed but his legacy will carry in through generations. I’m so thankful for the help he was in guiding and teaching our children and now our grandchildren.

When I was newly saved at age 27, I lived in England and didn't know any born again Christians. I happened to see a Focus on the Family magazine at the base hospital. I then subscribed and started to learn about the Christian life. I am forever grateful to James Dobson for that.

I have been listening to Dr. Dobson from 'the start, about 55 years go when I was a young mommy. I listened on the radio faithfully and I do believe at that time it was a 15 minute program. I raised 4 wonderful children and what I learned from Dr.Dobson every day was like a vitamin pill every day. I needed that pill to keep me on the right track against the ways of the world, and all that was changing in the world. . Now I am a grandmother of 11 grandsons and am still using all that I learned from Dr. Dobson and the word of God. Thank you, Dr. James Dobson. I will never forget. I am so sad for all of us to learn of his death, but if it’s one thing I’m sure of, it’s knowing he is in the arms of Jesus. My deepest condolences to Shirley and his children. I will miss Dr. Dobson too.

My deepest and heartfelt sympathy to Mrs. Dobson and the entire Dobson family. Even before I accepted Christ as my Savior, I listened to Dr. Dobson on Focus on the Family. I struggled with his wisdom at that time, but as I came to know Jesus, I appreciated his words and sentiments more and more. I will never forget his love for those families that struggled. His heart showed through every broadcast as it did in all of his newsletters. I never was able to meet him in person, but I will be excited to meet him in heaven. God bless you, and my prayers and deepest sympathy to all.

Dr. James Dobson played a significant part in raising our blended family. John Davis and I faced many challenges with the kids—as well as the usual trials of being newly married with teen agers —and we often turned to Focus on the Family for guidance. Much of what Dr. Dobson taught, we implemented in our home, and it made a lasting difference.

For many of us- our original mentor and boss passed away today. I wrote for Dr. James Dobson from 1998 to 2008. I knew this day would come. There are many things that I will always remember about Dr. Dobson, and that is, he walked away from fame and fortune, lived under his means, because in the early 1970's he saw a drift in marriage and family life. He opened up a small office, hung a shingle that read: "Help for families here." I am in Cripple Creek today (sorry Doc), listening to the stories of homeless families who work in the Casino industry, living out of their cars (if they have cars). Dr. Tim Clinton, who hired me to be executive producer of his radio show back in 2015, told me that when he was growing up, "all the kids wanted to be the next Ted Williams. I wanted to be the next James Dobson!" I told him to call Dr. Dobson, and sure enough, Tim served as the co-host of Family Talk for 5 years." Thank you Dr. Dobson- the real Cinderella Man!

Dr. Dobson's seminar " Focus Over 50" was exceptional when I attended. His only fiction writings, that I am aware of, with Kurt Bruner focusing on a future where the younger generation must deal with a rapidly growing society of an aging population, presented many thought provoking questions. The trilogy including : "Fatherless", "Childless", and "Godless" sheds insights on possibilities in the not too distant future. A very interesting read. I have shared the books with many of my friends.

Dr. Dobson & the Focus on the Family radio ministry was an integral part of my life and that of my young family. We lived on an island and did not have a television so we tuned in to every broadcast, radio theater & Adventure in Oddessy that we could! Dr. Dobson has left a worthy legacy. My heart goes out to his wife & family as it is a bittersweet time for them.

The highlight of my day as a new wife and mother was listening to Focus on the Family. It had a profound impact on the way our daughters were raised. We often prayed for the show and Dr Dobson. One night, in the middle 1980's, Louis had a dream/vision, that Dr Dobson was or about to be under Satanic attack. Louis was so distraught, that he called the office and left a message. We prayed into the night. I'm not sure the outcome, but God knows. Our sympathy to his wife and family.

I write this through tears reading all the tributes to this incredible man who has been one of my biggest heroes as long as I can remember. His was the loudest voice of mentorship in my early days as a new father and husband as I listened to Focus on the Family daily in my car on the way home from work in Chicago. Not only did his advice shape my parenting and marriage, but my kids were greatly shaped by Adventures in Odyssey which we listened to on every road trip and all through my kids' developing years. I'm now 55 and my grandkids are still able to listen to NEW episodes. What an amazing legacy! Thank you, Dr. Dobson for being a father to the fatherless and helping me get off on the right path. My family thanks you!

I first heard of James Dobson in 1984 when I was a young Presbyterian pastor in Ocean City, NJ. Someone recommended the movie, The Strong Willed Child, to be shown during an evening service. It was shown. What a great response. Ever since that evening I was a big "fan" of Dr. Dobson and his work with the family. I look forward to meeting him in heaven. Thank you Dr. Dobson for your outstanding work that encouraged the lives of millions.
